Curved Steel Plate Stairs

Commissioned for a three story penthouse on Park Avenue, these two sets of curved stairs feature a 3/8″ thick steel guard rail that winds up through the space like a ribbon.  All geometry was resolved in parametric 3D software with the guardrail rationalized into tangent arc curves for rolling.  The design process included a detailed geometry study in 3D parametric modeling software and a 3D print to verify final geometry.  This project was detailed and fabricated for Asfour Guzy Architects and RD Rice Construction with Nathanial Stanton providing structural engineering.
