Blackened Folded Steel Plate Stair

Two sets of stairs were fabricated at the Caliper Studio shop in Brooklyn and then installed on the site of a newly constructed townhouse on West 122nd Street. The deceivingly simple aesthetic is actually achieved with a complicated assembly of laser cut and bent parts. The result is a steel plate winder stair. The winding geometry was specifically designed to fit the unique corner spaces. The finish is a custom hand rubbed patina. Careful detailing at joints and glass connections add to the cleverness of the design.
