Reflective Tiled Sculpture

In addition to the research and design aspects of this project, Caliper Studio also fabricated the final piece as well as several mockups to test material assemblies. A unique flat pattern was created for each of the thirty-six tiles. This flat shape was then bent on a press brake into the basic panel geometry, without any torque in the panel. The final twisted shape was of each panel was only achieved when the precision-located laser cut holes on the panel flanges were matched up and bolted to the holes on the laser cut backer plate.

The entire assembly was built using pre-finished polished stainless steel sheet metal. To protect the finish, the factory film remained on the panels until the piece was installed onsite.
